Asymptotic analysis of stochastic variational inequalities modeling an elasto-plastic problem with vanishing jumps

چکیده
ABSTRACT. In a previous work by the first author with J. Turi [2], a stochastic variational inequality has been introduced to model an elasto-plastic oscillator with noise. A major advantage of the stochastic variational inequality is to overcome the need to describe the trajectory by phases (elastic or plastic). This is useful, since the sequence of phases cannot be characterized easily. In particular, when a change of regime occurs, there are numerous small elastic phases which may appear as an artefact of the Wiener process. However, it remains important to have informations on both the elastic and plastic phases. In order to reconcile these contradictory issues, we introduce an approximation of stochastic variational inequalities by imposing artificial small jumps between phases allowing a clear separation of the elastic and plastic regimes. In this work, we prove that the approximate solution converges on any finite time interval, when the size of jumps tends to 0.

An Ultra Weak Finite Element Method as an Alternative to a Monte Carlo Method for an Elasto-Plastic Problem with Noise
Abstract. An efficient method for obtaining numerical solutions of a stochastic variational inequality modeling an elasto-plastic oscillator with noise is considered. Since Monte Carlo simulations for the underlying stochastic process are too slow to produce results, as an alternative, approximate solutions of the partial differential equation defining the invariant measure of the process are s...
متن کاملAnisotropic and Dissipative Finite Elasto-plastic Composite
Here we propose a macroscopic model for elasto-plastic composite, characterized by an initial anisotropy, that can evolve during the large plastic deformation. Application to transversely isotropic and orthotropic composites will be also developed. The paper deals with anisotropic finite elasto-plastic 6-models, which accounts for the dissipative nature of the plastic flow, within the construct...
متن کاملStochastic functional population dynamics with jumps
In this paper we use a class of stochastic functional Kolmogorov-type model with jumps to describe the evolutions of population dynamics. By constructing a special Lyapunov function, we show that the stochastic functional differential equation associated with our model admits a unique global solution in the positive orthant, and, by the exponential martingale inequality with jumps, we dis...
متن کاملSequential Optimality Conditions and Variational Inequalities
In recent years, sequential optimality conditions are frequently used for convergence of iterative methods to solve nonlinear constrained optimization problems. The sequential optimality conditions do not require any of the constraint qualications. In this paper, We present the necessary sequential complementary approximate Karush Kuhn Tucker (CAKKT) condition for a point to be a solution of a ...
متن کاملOptimal Control of Variational Inequalities
We consider control problems for the variational inequality describing a single degree of freedom elasto-plastic oscillator. We are particularly interested in finding the ”critical excitation”, i.e., the lowest energy input excitation that drives the system between the prescribed initial and final states within a given time span. This is a control problem for a state evolution described by a va...
